Greening the Heritage City for Future Generations
Plantation Period: 5th September 2025 – 25th October 2025
Nagar Van is one of NetZero Planet Foundation's flagship urban greening initiatives, implemented across key corridors of Cuttack Municipal Corporation through the plantation of 3,000 native trees. The project was designed to strengthen urban biodiversity, improve environmental quality, reduce urban heat, and create greener public spaces across the Heritage City of Cuttack.
The plantation was carried out from the Judicial Area to Biju Patnaik Park along the Mahanadi Road corridor, as well as along the Petanal Canal roadside and medians, transforming urban landscapes into vibrant green corridors that benefit both people and nature.
The project includes a diverse mix of native and climate-resilient species selected for their suitability to urban environments, ecological value, shade potential, biodiversity support, and long-term sustainability.
Nagar Van is generating significant environmental benefits by improving air quality, reducing urban heat, enhancing roadside greenery, supporting biodiversity, and creating healthier urban ecosystems. The plantation provides shade for pedestrians and commuters, supports birds and pollinators, reduces noise pollution, and contributes to a cleaner and more livable city.
The project was implemented using scientific plantation practices, including site preparation, soil enrichment through compost application, mulching for moisture retention, installation of tree guards, and regular watering and maintenance. The focus remains on ensuring long-term survival and healthy growth of every planted tree.
The initiative was implemented in collaboration with State Bank of India (SBI) and supported by local communities, volunteers, and stakeholders, demonstrating the power of partnerships in creating sustainable urban environments.
The plantation phase has been successfully completed. Regular maintenance, monitoring, watering, and survival management activities are currently underway to ensure healthy growth and long-term sustainability of the green corridors.
Nagar Van stands as a model of urban ecological restoration, demonstrating how native tree plantation can transform public spaces, strengthen climate resilience, improve environmental quality, and create greener, healthier cities for future generations.
