Nagar Van is one of NetZero Planet Foundation's flagship urban greening and ecological restoration projects, successfully transforming 10 acres of land within the Cuttack Municipal area through the plantation of 4,000 native trees. The project was designed to enhance urban biodiversity, strengthen ecological balance, improve environmental quality, and create a climate-resilient green landscape for present and future generations.
The project includes a diverse mix of native and climate-resilient species such as Karanj, Arjun, Jamun, Neem, Radhachura, Bakul, Dalchini, Guava, Badam, Mango, Pomegranate, and other native trees selected to strengthen biodiversity, environmental sustainability, and urban ecological resilience.
Nagar Van is generating significant environmental benefits by improving air quality, reducing local temperatures, supporting groundwater recharge, conserving soil, and expanding urban green cover. The plantation provides habitat for birds, pollinators, and wildlife while helping restore ecological balance and strengthen the city's resilience against climate change and environmental stress.
The project was implemented using scientific and sustainable plantation practices, including land preparation, soil enrichment through compost application, mulching for moisture retention, installation of tree guards, and continuous watering and maintenance. These measures help ensure strong growth, high survival rates, and long-term sustainability.
The initiative received active support from local communities, volunteers, and stakeholders, promoting environmental awareness, collective responsibility, and long-term stewardship of urban green spaces.
The plantation phase has been successfully completed. Regular maintenance, monitoring, watering, and survival management activities are currently underway to ensure the healthy growth and long-term sustainability of the forest.
Nagar Van stands as a model of urban ecological restoration, demonstrating how native tree plantation can enhance biodiversity, strengthen climate resilience, improve environmental quality, and create greener, healthier cities for future generations.
